Bookish Questions
Hello everyone! Have you been doing lots of reading this month? I have and I thought it would be fun to answer some bookish questions. I tried my best to write about books that I have read this year but I wasn't able to stick to that for every single question.
1. What is the first book you finished this year?
The first book I finished this year was Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. My sister and I were reading this book together, trading off reading it aloud chapter by chapter. And I did enjoy it but it was harder for me to get through and took a while. One thing I would say about Jane Austen is not to read two of her books back to back, at least for me, it's just too much.
2. What book did you read from start to finish in one day?
I don't remember if it was last year or the year before but I (almost) read a whole short trilogy in one day. One Crazy Summer, P.S Be Eleven, and Gone Crazy in Alabama by Rita Williams-Garcia. I read them so fast because that evening my family and I were going to an event to see the author at the library and I wanted to finish her books first. I got close but ended up reading the last of the third one that evening.
3. How many five-star ratings have you given this year?
So far I have given four five-star ratings. I don't really have a good system of rating books, I probably should get something figured out, but I say that because these books are not necessarily my favorites but I thought they deserved five stars for some other reason. The books are:
- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
- Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham
- The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
- Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
4. Do you read non-fiction/self-help? If so what did you read most recently?
I don't read very much non-fiction but I have read a couple this year. Most non-fiction that I have read has not been my favorite and I think has that made me stay away from it however I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot this year and I really enjoyed it.
5. What book took you a really long time to get through?
A year or two ago I read Cinder by Marissa Meyer and I really didn't enjoy it. I read it aloud and once I am halfway through a book I try to finish it but because I didn't like it, reading it took many months. This book is really popular and I know lots of people like it but I think it was predictable and uninteresting. When any book ends, I think it should have some sort of concrete ending that makes sense. It has happened a couple of times when the last chapter ends like any other chapter in the book and there is no solid ending, even if the book still ends on a cliffhanger, it should make sense.
Thank you for reading!
