My Favorites: Mystery Books

Hey friends, this is my 63rd post in a row, that's crazy to me!  Last year I started a series where I planned to write a list of my favorite books from different genres.  I am going to pick it up again and share some of my favorite mysteries!

Agatha Christie

The queen of mysteries herself.  The surprise, the big reveal, never ceases to amaze me no matter how prepared I am.

I have read:
  • Murder on the Orient Express
  • Until There Were None
  • Death on the Nile
  • and I am halfway through The Murder at the Vicarage
Have you read any of these?  Which was your favorite? I don't think I have one on this list that I liked much better than the others.  I really enjoyed watching the "Murder on the Orient Express" movie after I finished reading it and am excited to watch "Death on the Nile" when it comes out.

The Flavia De Luce series

Flavia de Luce, a dangerously smart eleven-year-old with a passion for chemistry and a genius for solving murders. . .

I adore this book series, the mysteries are always amazing, the writing is interesting and the characters, especially, are fantastic in my opinion.  It a lot of fun.

The mystery in each one is not chronological but an overarching mystery, that becomes a much bigger deal towards the end, is.   I confess that I haven't finished this series so I don't know what the resolve of the bigger mystery is yet.  I started by listening to these books on audio but loved them so I decided to physically read them too.

One of Us is Lying

I listened to this book in the car with my mom while I was working my way up to my first 55 hours of driving time.  I had fun with this book, it made me want to get in the car and drive more often.  In terms of the mystery, it was intriguing but involved lots of high school relationships. Which is okay (and honestly is it a young adult book without high school relationships?), but I was not as used to those scenes being intertwined between the scenes with the mystery.

All the same, I did enjoy it.

Have you read this book?

The Hound of The Baskervilles

Can this be a post about mysteries if I don't include the classic Conan Doyle?  I think yes but I am going to include it anyway.  It's not as much about this specific story, it's about the characters.  Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are unforgettable and known by everyone, even people who have never heard of Arthur Conan Doyle.

This is the only Sherlock Holmes book I have read so far but I enjoyed it- characters, setting, mystery, and all.  Maybe I'll read a Study in Scarlett next.

Thank you for reading!

Have you read any of these books, series, or authors?  Do you prefer older or newer mystery books?  Truthfully I haven't read many different types of mysteries, if you have any suggestions (that aren't Agatha Christie), I'd love to hear them.

  1. I LOVE Agatha Christie but I should probably branch out and read some other mystery novels as well.

    1. Yes, I am feeling the same way! There seem to be an endless supply of good Agatha Christie novels though. :D
